Item lending libraries : Library of Things, London
Libraries as art-making spaces
While most libraries house books, the Library of Things is a collection of DIY and household items, which users might rent and take with them to use in their own home. Items include drills, projectors, and gardening tools, among many other examples, and Libraries of Things have been installed in nineteen different London locations so far, in all areas of the city. Apart from its aim to foster creativity by creating more access to artistic tools and equipment, the library also helps users to be more environmentally efficient by not having to buy every piece of equipment new. The Library of Things concept can be licenced by libraries and other public venues to open a lending space at their site.
